More about Blast-Resistant Portable Buildings
Are blast-resistant buildings and blast-proof buildings the same?
Blast-resistant is the term used industry-wide. Portable buildings can be engineered to withstand a great deal of pressure and force from an event, but explosions are powerful events. If the term blast-proof it used, it implies there will be no damage, which is nearly impossible.
What is a blast-resistant portable building?
Blast resistant portable buildings are buildings constructed using special materials to withstand the effects of an explosion. These materials deflects, absorb, or disperse the energy from explosions caused by high-energy events. The goal of a blast resistant structure is to minimize damage and protect occupants. Portable blast-resistant buildings are often used when there is a high risk for explosions or fires are a significant hazard such as:
- Industrial Areas
- Conflict Zones
- Chemical and Oil Refineries
How are blast-resistant portable buildings rated?
Blast-resistant portable buildings are rated by response level. Response levels are defined by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) as Low, Medium, and High based on the predicted amount of repair that a structure would need after an explosion.
- A Low Response blast-resistant portable building means the building may have little damage after an event and can still be used. Minor repairs from damage may be needed but the building can be used in the meantime.
- A Medium Response blast-resistant portable building will require significant repairs after a blast due to widespread building damage. The building should not be used until the repairs are made.
- A High Response blast-resistant portable building loses structural integrity after a blast. It is highly likely you'd need to replace the building all together. Hunter Onsite does not rent High Response modules.
What is the PSI rating and response level of a blast-resistant portable building?
PSI is the amount of pressure in pounds per square inch (psi) that the building can withstand is given a number rating. The higher the rating, the more resistant the portable building is to blasts. All Hunter Onsite blast resistant portable buildings are API PR 752/753/756 compliant and feature a blast rating of 8 - 10 PSI, with a medium to low response level.
How much are blast-resistant portable buildings?
Your blast resistant building price depends on several factors including module type, delivery location and length of rental.
